Types of Ceremonies
The municipality of Moerdijk offers the following types of ceremonies for a marriage or a registered partnership.
1. The Traditional Ceremony
- not limited to residents of the municipality of Moerdijk
- Choose fromthe designated wedding venues in the municipality of Moerdijkoran alternative location
- every day of the week
- preference for aspecial civil registrar or the couple's own choice of a special civil registrar.
- Number of attendees depends on the chosen location
- At least 2 and no more than 4 witnesses
- maximum duration of 45 minutes
- space for a speech and music
- presence of a messenger
- option to purchase a (marriage) certificate
2. The Simple Ceremony
- only for residents of the municipality of Moerdijk
- at the town hall in Zevenbergen
- Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.
- No selection of a special civil registrar
- A maximum of 12 guests, including the bride and groom and the witnesses
- At least 2 and no more than 4 witnesses
- time for a short speech
- maximum duration of 20 minutes
- option to purchase a (marriage) certificate
3. The Free Ceremony
- only for residents of the municipality of Moerdijk
- at the town hall in Zevenbergen
- Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. or 9:15 a.m.
- No choice for a civil registrar
- A maximum of four attendees ((the bride and groom) and two witnesses)
- only the official part
- maximum duration of 10 minutes
- option to purchase a (marriage) certificate
4. Converting a Registered Partnership to a Marriage
A registered partnership can be converted into a marriage. This can be done at any municipality in the Netherlands.
Make an appointment with the registrar. Bring the following with you:
- Valid, original identification documents for you and your partner;
- If applicable: a copy of the registered partnership certificate (if the municipality where the conversion takes place is different from the municipality where the registered partnership was entered into).

Terms and Conditions
- To convert a registered partnership into a marriage, you can choose from the ceremonies listed above.
- You don't need any witnesses.
- Converting a registered partnership into a marriage has no effect on children born before the conversion.
- Not all countries recognize the conversion of a registered partnership into a marriage. If you wish to have the conversion recognized in a country other than the Netherlands, please check with the embassy of that country first.
