Marriage Officiants
The marriage ceremony is officiated by a special civil registrar (BABS). This person plays an important role on your wedding day. Get to know them below.
Do you feel a connection with one of our marriage officiants? If so, please indicate your preference for that person. The municipality may always assign a different officiant, for example, in the event of illness or vacation. A marriage officiant from outside the municipality of Moerdijk may also officiate your wedding. The condition is that this person must already be a (special) civil registrar.
Your Own Wedding Officiant
A civil registrar from outside the municipality of Moerdijk may also officiate at your wedding. The condition is that this person must already be a (special) civil registrar.
A family member or friend may also officiate your wedding. This person is appointed as a special civil registrar (BABS) for one day and is sworn in by the court.
Requests
Has previously officiated a wedding
- The bride and groom must submit the request themselves
- The application form is used for the following : one-time designation of a (special) civil registrar from another jurisdiction who has been previously designated.
- A copy of the designation decision for that (b)abs
- A copy of the court's certification order
- A copy of the identification document for that (b)abs
- A certificate from the municipality where the (b)abs is employed, stating that the person in question has performed this work continuously to date
- The civil registrar signsa statement of integrity.
Has never officiated a wedding before
The bride and groom must submit their request no later than 4 months before the wedding date usingthis application form: special civil registrar for one day, not previously appointed.
The documents you'll need for this are:
- Copies of the identification documents of both prospective partners
- Copy of the identification document of the person to be appointed as a civil registrar
- A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG), issued no more than 3 months ago, for the designated civil registrar
- The person to be appointed as a civil registrar signs a statement of integrity
Has previously officiated a wedding
If the marriage officiant is already a (b)abs in another municipality, the application and supporting documents must be received no later than 3 months before the date of the marriage or registered partnership.
Requirements for designation:
- A copy of the appointment order and the court's certification
- A statement from another municipality confirming that the (b)abs is still actively performing its duties
- The (b)abs signs a statement of integrity
- The Babs is appointed as an unpaid Babs
Has never officiated a wedding before
Your request to have someone appointed and sworn in as a civil marriage officiant must be received no later than 4 months before the date of the marriage or registered partnership.
Requirements for designation:
- During the ceremony, a civil registrar from the municipality of Moerdijk will be present to ensure that the ceremony proceeds in accordance with applicable regulations.
- The person to be appointed as a civil registrar must be 18 years of age or older and must not be listed in the guardianship registry.
- The person to be appointed as a civil registrar must be able to speak well in public
- The marriage or registered partnership is solemnized in Dutch.
- The person to be appointed as a civil registrar must be sworn in; this takes place in person at the Zeeland-West-Brabant District Court.
