Converting a partnership into a marriage

A registered partnership can be converted into a marriage. This can be done at any municipality in the Netherlands.

To convert a registered partnership into a marriage, you can choose from a variety of ceremonies.
You don't need any witnesses.
Converting a registered partnership into a marriage has no effect on children born before the conversion.
Not all countries recognize the conversion of a registered partnership into a marriage. If you wish to have the conversion recognized in a country other than the Netherlands, please check with the embassy of that country first.
