Ukrainians – new resident

Have you just moved to the municipality and haven't applied for a Citizen Service Number (BSN) yet? Be sure to apply for one as soon as possible by making an appointment at City Hall.

A BSN is a personal identification number issued by the government that everyone in the Netherlands has. You need it, for example, for work, health care, taxes, banking, and education.

Do you already have a BSN and have you just moved to the municipality of Moerdijk? If so, all you need to do is report your change of address through the municipality’s website or by making an appointment at City Hall.

Proof of Residence

To prove that you are a Ukrainian refugee, you must apply for a residence permit from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND). To do this, you must make an appointment with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) no later than 4 weeks after registering with the municipality. Apply for a Bank Account

To participate in society, it is important to have a Dutch bank account.

You can receive living expenses or a salary from work in this bank account. To open a Dutch bank account, you’ll need at least a BSN and a residential address. You can find tips on opening a Dutch bank account onthe RefugeeHelp website.

Apply for DigiD

For many government-related matters, you'll need a DigiD. You use a DigiD to log in to government websites. You'll need it for things like taxes, healthcare, and benefits.

You can applyfor a DigiD throughthe DigiD website. The website is available only in Dutch and English. Make sure that only you know your DigiD. If someone else can log in using your DigiD, that person can view your personal information and use it to commit identity fraud.

Government Message Box

The MijnOverheid Message Box is a digital mailbox for official correspondence from government agencies such as the SVB, the Tax and Customs Administration, or the UWV. You can subscribe to it to receive notifications when you’ve received a letter. This allows you to receive important government information quickly, securely, and in one central location. It makes communicating with the government much easier. It’s important to check the Message Box regularly for new letters. Don’t have a Message Box yet? Application for a Dutch license plate

If you have a motor vehicle with a Ukrainian license plate, you must obtain a Dutch license plate within two weeks. As of March 2025, it is no longer permitted to drive in the Netherlands with a Ukrainian license plate. Air Raid Siren

On the first Monday of every month at 12:00 p.m., the Dutch government tests the air raid siren.

You don't need to worry about this. If you hear the air raid siren at any other time, make sure to go inside and close the windows and doors.
