Registering from Abroad (Registration)
You are moving to the Netherlands from abroad and will be staying for at least 4 months. Please notify us within 5 days of your arrival. If your partner and/or children also need to be registered, they must accompany you. Please make an appointment for this.
Please bring the following with you:
- valid original identification document
- a travel document or other document proving your nationality
- If you were born abroad: a birth certificate. You may need to have the birth certificate legalized and translated
- If applicable, a marriage certificate, a divorce decree, or proof that the marriage has been dissolved due to death. You may need to have the certificate or proof legalized and translated.
- For citizens from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Maarten, and Sint Eustatius, proof of deregistration from the local authority
- If you're moving in with someone:
- Statement of Consent from the Primary Resident
- a copy of the primary resident's valid identification
Not an EU citizen?
Are you not an EU citizen? If not, you must first apply to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) for a residence permit. You can find more information about residence permits on the Dutch government’s website—Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND).
Staying in the Netherlands for less than 4 months?
Do you visit the Netherlands regularly, but for less than 4 months per year, or do you work in the Netherlands as a foreign national? If so, you can register as a non-resident in the Personal Records Database.
Not all municipalities offer this service. Some municipalities have special registration desks for this purpose. You can find more information on the national government’s website.
