(Pre-)informal care housing
Sometimes, an informal caregiver needs to live close to the person who needs help. An informal care unit attached to one’s own home can be a solution in such cases. In most cases, an environmental permit (building permit) is not required for an informal care unit. An informal care home is an independent residence on its own lot. Either the informal caregiver or the person receiving care lives in the informal care home. There are ready-made informal care homes, or an existing house can be expanded to include an informal care home as an addition. An existing space, such as a garage, can also be converted into an informal care home.
Pre-informal care home
It is also possible to install a so-called “pre-informal care home” in the yard. By temporarily installing a pre-informal care home, family members and those in need of care can continue to live in their own environment for longer. The program applies to family members and those in need of care who are 67 years of age or older, or if it can be demonstrated that there will be a need for intensive care within ten years. The person in need of care or the potential informal caregiver(s) can then apply for and receive a permit for a pre-informal care home for up to ten years without any hassle, provided the specified conditions are met. If regular informal care is needed within this period, the permit is converted to the permit-exempt arrangement for a standard informal care home.
A fee is required for this permit application.
- You must be able to prove that you are either an informal caregiver or in need of informal care, for example, with a statement from your family doctor or community nurse. You can download and fill out the “Informal Care Declaration” form. You can then email the completed and signed form to vh@moerdijk.nl. We will then contact you.
- If informal care is no longer needed, the permit exemption will expire.
- If you want to continue living in the home without providing informal care, you should still apply for a permit. Or you can make modifications to the home so that it is no longer habitable.
