Roads in the Netherlands are designed according to specific design principles and requirements, which are intended to ensure they are as safe as possible for everyone. The municipality of Moerdijk follows these principles and requirements as much as possible. Therefore, we cannot always simply implement (additional) speed-reduction measures. We often find that speeders in a neighborhood are residents of that neighborhood themselves. Simply making them aware of their own behavior can already help. As a resident, you can also do your part. Consider, for example, organizing a neighborhood campaign through Veilig Verkeer Nederland (VVN).

If drivers continue to speed after the neighborhood campaigns, you can do the following:

• Work with other neighbors who share your views to form a working group.
• Send a report to the municipality explaining what the problem is, what the working group has already tried, and what the municipality could do to help you achieve a resolution. You can submit reports to the municipality viainfo@moerdijk.nl

We will review your request and determine whether the road complies with the design principles. We will then send you a message with our decision. We will also discuss the next steps with you.

There are usually two options:

1. We will take your wishes into account in a future (long-term) maintenance project.
2. Is there something fundamentally wrong with the road’s design? And is there a good chance that measures could actually improve the situation? If so, we’ll look into whether we can take action as soon as possible with temporary measures before major maintenance (and possible reconstruction) of the road takes place.
