Road Safety Plan

The Moerdijk Road Safety Plan 2018–2028 aims to make the roads within the municipality of Moerdijk even safer. The plan includes dozens of measures designed to give road safety within the municipality of Moerdijk an extra boost. The focus is on the following target groups: children (school-age children), seniors, pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and heavy traffic.

The number of traffic fatalities has decreased both nationwide and within the municipality of Moerdijk. However, the number of traffic accident victims has increased. This plan was developed to counteract this increase. To prevent new accidents, we want to take a preventive approach. The new traffic safety plan focuses, among other things, on improving visibility at intersections and creating safer bicycle and pedestrian routes. It also emphasizes partnerships with law enforcement (the police and municipal inspectors).

Unfortunately, not everything can be resolved or prevented. Ultimately, a great deal of responsibility lies with road users themselves. Every road user knows that they must obey the speed limit, that using a cell phone can be dangerous, and that they must stop when a pedestrian is crossing at a crosswalk. Unfortunately, this does not always happen. That is why, in this plan, we have also chosen to place extra emphasis on raising awareness of risky behavior among road users themselves.
