Fire Safety for Temporary Structures, Notice of Use

To promote fire safety at locations such as events, campgrounds, or marinas, it is important that you take certain measures. You must comply with the Decree on Fire Safety and Basic Emergency Response at Other Locations. In some cases, you must file a notice of use.

Notice of Use

Are you erecting a temporary structure, such as a meeting tent, bleachers, or a stage? If so, you must submit a notice of use in the following cases:

• More than 150 people present at the same time;
• Overnight accommodations are provided to more than 10 people, either on a commercial basis or as part of care services;
• Care is provided to more than 10 children under the age of 12 or more than 10 people with physical or intellectual disabilities.

If you wish to implement fire safety measures that differ from the regulations set forth in Chapters 3 through 5 of the Decree on Fire Safety and Basic Emergency Response for Other Locations, you must also file a notification.

No notification required

Do you need an event permit for your activity? If so, you do not need to submit a separate notification. You can submit the notification using the event permit application form.

File a Report

You must submit the notice of use four weeks before the start of use. To do so, use the “Notification Form for Fire-Safe Use and Basic Emergency Services at Other Locations.” You can submit this form with any attachments via email or drop it off at City Hall.

You must include the information specified in Article 2.3 of the decision as an attachment (or attachments):

1. A site plan with a north arrow.
2. A floor plan of each gathering space (such as a meeting tent, grandstand, or stage) designed to accommodate more than 150 people at a time. The following information must be provided for each gathering space:
   • the space available for people;
   • intended use;
   • the layout of inventory and display elements (set-up booths, stalls, shelves, stages, and similar display elements), indicating the location of the following, if present:
     • fire- and smoke-resistant partition structures;
     • escape routes;
     • direction of rotation of passageways;
     • emergency exits and evacuation routes, with an indication of their width;
     • emergency exit signs;
     • emergency lighting;
     • fire extinguishing systems;
     • fire department entrance.
