Municipality, Province, and Federal Government

The municipality, the province, and the national government each have their own role to play in water management. Together with the water board, they work to ensure clean and safe water.

The municipality is responsible for the municipal sewer system—that is, for the collection and transport of wastewater from homes and businesses. The municipality is also responsible for ensuring that rainwater and groundwater do not cause problems. The municipality is the first point of contact for residents regarding groundwater issues. The municipality also plays a role in managing groundwater quality.

Province

National Government

Water District

Personal Responsibility

As the owner of a home or commercial building, you are responsible for the sewer line located on your property and its connection to the municipal sewer system.This means you mustresolve any clogs on your propertyyourself. Do you live in a rental home or rent a commercial property? If so, report any sewer problems to your landlord.

The same rules apply to groundwater flooding as to sewer problems: the property owner isresponsible for taking the necessary measures.
