Child Care and Preschool 

It is important for young children to attend daycare or preschool. Not only do children learn to play with their peers there, but it also helps them get off to a good start in elementary school. The municipality of Moerdijk offers various types of childcare.

For an overview of daycare centers, after-school care, child care agencies, and child care providers, please visitthe website of the National Child Care Register. If you and your partner both have paid jobs, you can apply for a subsidy from the Tax and Customs Administration. The municipality is responsible for monitoring the quality of care provided at registered childcare centers and through child care agencies. The GGD West-Brabant therefore conducts regular inspections. The national government oversees compliance with quality standards nationwide.

Early Childhood Education (VVE)

The government believes it is important for your toddler to have the opportunity to develop through play and to be well-prepared for elementary school. That is why the municipality has a program for early childhood education and care—VVE (language development). This program provides partial reimbursement of the costs of your toddler’s daycare. The child health clinic (TWB) assesses whether there is a (risk of) developmental delay and refers you to a VVE-certified childcare facility. As parents, you can choose which childcare center your child attends. You can check the National Childcare Register (LRK) to see if a childcare center has VVE certification. VVE-certified childcare centers have specially trained staff and offer extra support to toddlers with a VVE referral. With a VVE recommendation from the health clinic, your toddler will attend toddler care for at least two 4-hour sessions per week. Starting September 1, your toddler can participate in a third and fourth session free of charge to receive additional language and developmental stimulation; you only pay for the first and second sessions. 

Child Care Allowance for Toddlers (KOT)

Attending early childhood care contributes to a toddler’s development. The Municipality of Moerdijk therefore wants to encourage the use of early childhood care. Even if you are not eligible for a subsidy from the Tax and Customs Administration—for example, because you are not in paid employment—you can still apply for a subsidy from the Municipality of Moerdijk. The subsidy is intended for children ages 2 to 4 who attend preschool at an organization listed in the national preschool registry. You can receive a subsidy from the municipality for a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 hours of preschool care per week.

Information for Child and Toddler Care Organizations

As a child care organization, you will receive reimbursement from the municipality for the third and fourth half-days of toddler care and for additional language and developmental support. You may only apply for this reimbursement if you meet the legal requirements and the conditions set forth in the contract with the municipality.

Launch of the Procurement Process for Early Childhood Education (VE) and Child Care

Early Childhood Education (VVE) is a key focus of the legally mandated Policy on Educational Disadvantages. It is intended to compensate for children who do not receive sufficient development-oriented stimulation at home. The child health clinic (TWB) determines whether a child is at a developmental disadvantage and refers the child to a VVE-certified childcare center. A VE childcare facility has specially trained staff and offers toddlers with a referral additional support in their (language) development. The municipality of Moerdijk has been working with childcare organizations for years to offer VE and to address (the risk of) developmental delays in young children. To effectively focus on results and avoid unnecessary administrative burdens, the Mayor and Aldermen have decided to procure VE services through a framework agreement. Starting September 21, 2022, the procurement process will be open to all childcare organizations wishing to provide VE in the municipality of Moerdijk.
