Mailing Address

A mailing address is an address where you do not live but only receive mail. It is a temporary solution for a period during which you do not have a permanent residential address. You provide the address of an acquaintance as your mailing address. This person must give their consent and ensure that the mail reaches you.

Are you temporarily homeless or staying in a facility? You may be eligible for a mailing address. A mailing address is another person’s address where your mail can be sent

Please note: If you are not registered with a Dutch municipality, you will need to make an appointment for “Registration from abroad (registration)”.

Please read below to find out what is required to apply for a mailing address.

When will you receive a mailing address?

  • If you are homeless or living on the streets and are registered with an agency
  • If you temporarily do not have a residential address for a short period of time
  • If you move abroad for a short period—for example, for an internship or to study—and do not return to your previous address
  • If you sail on a ship based in the Netherlands as part of your job
  • If you are staying at a facility (youth services, health care, a women’s shelter, or a prison)

How can you request a mailing address?

To apply for a mailing address, please make an appointment.

Please bring:

  • Valid, original identification document
  • Form: Declaration of Consent for a Mailing Address
  • A copy of the primary resident's valid identification
  • Depending on the reason for the application, additional documents may be requested

Please note: Are you living in a nursing home? If so, you can download the “Change of Address for Nursing Home Residents” form, fill it out, and submit it.

Terms and Conditions

You must apply for a mailing address with the municipality where the mailing address is located.

A mailing address can affect, for example, applications for travel documents, driver’s licenses, and any social services.

Primary Resident

The primary resident of the address you provide as your mailing address must give written consent for this. If the primary resident grants consent, he or she is required to ensure that mail intended for you is actually delivered to you.
