Fire Safety, Notice of Use

To ensure that a building or other structure can be used safely in the event of a fire, it is important that you take certain measures. You must comply with the Building and Living Environment Decree (Bbl). In some cases, you must file a notice of use. This requirement applies to both structural and occasional cases.

You can use the Permit Check feature on the Omgevingsloket website to see if you need to file a report.

If you need to file a report for “Fire Safety in Buildings,” you can submit it digitally through the Omgevingsloket. To do so, you will need your DigiD (for individuals) or eHerkenning (for businesses).

Good to Know

You must submit the notice of occupancy four weeks before the building is put into use. Along with the notice of occupancy, you must provide information and documents—for example, regarding fire safety measures (fire extinguishers, escape routes, etc.). You must mark these on a floor plan that you attach to the notice. The list of required information and documents is set forth in Article 6.8 of the Building and Living Environment Decree.
