Flooding
Flooding in your home, yard, or on the street can be caused by heavy rain, but also by groundwater, for example. As a homeowner, you are responsible for ensuring that the spaces under your home are watertight. You can read more about this onthe pagesaboutfloodingandgroundwater.
Because heavy rain has become more common these days, flooding outside the home is occurring more frequently. This is especially true when water has difficulty draining into the ground, such as when the yard is paved. You can read about how to reduce this problem onthe page about water in the yard.
Water on the street is a normal part of the new climate. If that water remains standing for 2 days (48 hours), the street drain (the small opening in the street) may be clogged. You can report this to the municipality usingthe report form.
Sewage Odor
Do you smell a sewer odor in the bathroom or utility room? If so, it’s often because the trap (gooseneck) has dried out. You can fix this quickly by pouring a little water down the drain. The same applies on the street: if it’s been dry for a while and a drain is smelly, the problem can often be quickly resolved with a bucket of water.
