Program Approach

With its 2022–2026 Administrative Agreement, the Moerdijk municipal executive is firmly committed to “vibrant centers” and aims to capitalize on opportunities for and with residents and business owners. The municipal executive plans to invest heavily in this initiative and will begin work on the vibrant centers of Zevenbergen, Klundert, Fijnaart, and Willemstad. The 2023–2025 Multi-Year Budget sets out an ambition and defines a strategic goal. How these will be achieved is partly outlined in operational goals.

Ambition

We have “vital centers” in the towns of Zevenbergen, Fijnaart, Klundert, and Willemstad, for (future) residents of the municipality of Moerdijk and for visitors (both recreational and business).

The surrounding smaller communities benefit from this accessible range of amenities, with these vibrant centers boosting the quality of life in Moerdijk as a whole. (Source: 2022–2025 Multi-Year Budget).

Strategic Goal

Zevenbergen, Fijnaart, Klundert, and Willemstad have accessible, compact, and dynamic town centers that serve as inviting gathering places, offering an attractive and diverse range of amenities such as retail, hospitality, cultural, social, and recreational facilities and events. This also contributes to the quality of life in the surrounding communities.

A related indirect goal is to attract new residents. This can be achieved, for example, by offering an “urban” living environment in the city centers.

This strategic goal can be translated into the results we aim to achieve for the four designated centers in Moerdijk:

  • More visitors.
  • Longer length of stay.
  • More spending.
  • Increase the resilience of central urban areas.
  • Increase residents’ and business owners’ appreciation of the area, including the value of the town center as a place for social interaction.
  • Cohesion / Collaboration Among Entrepreneurs.

For each core, this can be broken down into:

  • Unique identity and profile, atmosphere, and reputation.
  • The Center as a Meeting Place
  • An attractive, diverse selection.
  • Engaging events.
  • Accessibility.
