Building an Entrance or Exit

You want to build an entrance or exit from your home, business, or property to a public road. You need an environmental permit. You can apply for an environmental permit at the Omgevingsloket.

Terms and Conditions

An entrance and an exit are the same thing. For the sake of simplicity, we'll assume it's an exit.

In the following cases, you need a permit to build a driveway. You want to:

• Build an exit to the road;
• Using the road to create a driveway (for example, by lowering the sidewalk);
• Making changes to an existing driveway leading to the road.

The municipality may deny a permit:

• To prevent hazards to traffic on the road.
• If the exit unnecessarily takes up space that could be used for public parking.
• If the exit causes unacceptable damage to public green spaces.
• If there is an exit from a lot that is already served by another exit, and the construction of the second exit would result in the loss of a public parking space or public green space.

For example, if you wish to obtain a permit on a busy main thoroughfare, the municipality will likely deny your request for traffic safety reasons.

Costs

• The fee for applying for the permit is €139.80

The construction of a driveway or entrance is carried out by a contractor hired by the municipality. The contractor prepares a quote, and it is up to the applicant to accept or reject it. The applicant is responsible for the construction costs.
